Rebecca’s 13 Super-secret ways to grab an editor’s attention
So how do you stand out and get the editor to actually open your email, read your story idea or pitch, get excited about it and, most importantly, respond? I mean, if a story pitch lands in an editor’s inbox but it’s never read, did it really happen?
I’m sharing my secret to finding pitch-worthy stories…
My favourite Alice in Wonderland quote is “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast,” and like Alice, I really can come up with six story ideas before 10 a.m.
Book burnout
Book burnout is the writer’s block for readers, and as I found out, it’s an actual thing. I took a deep dive into a Reddit thread on the topic. Turns out many have been experiencing the same symptoms as I have.

For the love of reading: hereditary or environmental? For rebecca, it was environmental, but for me?
In my very early 20s, I was babysitting at a family friend's house. I was bored. They had a small shelf of books, so I picked up a John Grisham novel — The Rainmaker. I finished it in less than 24 hours. And that was the trigger of the avalanche that would become my favourite pastime: reading and then reading more.
Why you shouldn’t care about reviews
I recently reached out to a female book reviewer who wrote a scathing review of my book How to Raise a Boyfriend ten years ago. Why did I do this? Honestly? Boredom.
To finish, or not to finish?
Booklovers have assigned the acronym DNF (Did Not Finish) to the action of quitting a book. Some profiles on Goodreads have a shelf named DNF, that lists the books they didn’t finish.
